SUNDAY - OCTOBER 20

VENICE, ITALY
DEPART 5PM

To prepare you for the journey of a life time, guests fly to the historic Italian City of Venice. Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs. This tour of Venice will be an unforgettable experience.

Surrounded by narrow streets, the 11th-century Basilica di San Nicola, a key pilgrimage site, holds some of St. Nicholas’ remains. To the south, the Murat quarter has stately 19th-century architecture, a promenade and pedestrianized shopping areas. This excursion will be an awesome experience!

It’s also the gateway to ancient Olympia, the flame and founding place of the Olympic Games, and one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Shore excursions typically take in the highlights of the archaeological site, including the Temple of Zeus, the palaestra gymnasium, the archaeological museum, and the Olympic stadium, which held the first Olympic Games in 776 BC. Guests will have the opportunity to also visit the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, enjoy a wine tasting at the Mercouri Winery, relax at Agios Andreas beach, or browse the many tourist shops along the main street.

Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the sea, small islands to the west and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles. The Greek island of Santorini (Thira) is in the southern Aegean Sea and actually consists of a group of islands. It is one of the most popular spots to visit in all of Greece, because of its brilliant blue roofs, but there are so many more things to do and attractions to see, than just the pretty domed buildings.
